This e-lecture shows how to perform preliminary analyses of passive seismic data, in order to assess their characteristics: noise source distribution, time variability, frequency content, etc. A processing sequence to extract virtual source gathers from continuous passive records is shown, which is effective in overcoming the noise directionality issue. Results obtained using a small-scale dense 3D dataset, acquired for archaeological prospection around the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua (Italy), demonstrate the potential of passive seismic interferometry in very complex environments such as urban areas.
