Wedge Modeling

The goal of this simulation is to explore the resolution characteristics of post stack P-wave seismic inversion as the target formation thins from several wavelengths in thickness to zero. You can examine the interplay between the low and high-frequency seismic inversion in addition to the effect of bandwidth and phase of the seismic input on the resulting resolution.

Learning Outcomes

  • Run inversion on P-wave reflectivity measurements to obtain acoustic impedance.
  • Differentiate between information within the seismic bandwidth versus the low-frequency information typically derived from well control or velocity estimates.
  • Recognize the effect of phase and bandwidth of the P-wave seismic data on the resulting inversion.
